FAQ
Why Love & Moxie — and Is It For Me?
We live in a society that tells us we can solve almost everything by working harder or optimizing ourselves. This work offers a fundamentally different approach that starts by assuming you have done enough already. This is a place to look at the facts with fresh eyes, honor what you know is true and update the frame so it actually fits.
My clients are not linked by a certain label, gender, or embodiment. They are smart, curious, and open-minded, looking for radically different solutions to structural problems in the frameworks of their lives and workplaces.
We are all Much More Than One Thing
Can you pick one thing that encapsulates all of you?
Do you have to?
One role in your family.
One way you are seen by others.
One label you’ve been called.
We are too complex to pick just one thing. I don’t think we should even try. Our frameworks can evolve to hold our complexity. We need to put some effort into it though - and stop doubting whether our wholeness matters.
Examples from my own life:
Chapters v Short Story:
I devoted a number of years to parenting after spending many years running with the fast pack. As a high achiever with numerous interests, I never saw full time caregiving as a lifelong or singular identity. I didn't see running with the pack as the whole story either. Why would I?
Different v Typical:
I have always been very different and smart. I was often mistaken for typical. I didn't pick my shell but it's a red herring. Being unseen or underestimated even while acing things has been maddening. Being perennially misunderstood but retaining optimism is not typical. It’s a big part of this work.
Alone v Lonely:
I thrive on TONS of alone time. I also love humans and won't let you leave the parking lot at the Coop until I'm done with the joke. The amount of solitude I need used to stress me out because it stressed other people out and I felt like I was letting them down. In their framework, that much solitude signals a problem. Not so for me.
Guess Again:
Sometimes people assume I am in one category and not the other. They describe one category in ways that I actually associate more with the other. I wonder if they assume my outfit or their first impression of me tells them which category I fit in? Um. Nope.
Old v Young:
I felt old as a kid. Like really old. I feel younger each year. I don't remember the good old days or the wild and crazy times or how easy it was back in childhood. That wasn’t my experience. I don't think of my body as something that was perfect once and is decaying. I love every day and year more than the last. I love my body more every day. We are best friends now and listen to each other. I don't like being recruited into jokes or comments about age or my body that are built on assumptions that don’t match my experience.
Luddite v Tech:
People talk about technology as if none of us get it or enjoy it. I love tech. I do get it. I would be happy to replace your laptop battery or apply thermal paste to your crusty old CPU. I remember thinking a video call sounded like the coolest thing in the world and now I can hop on one. Tech is not the enemy and it’s not a panacea. I don’t like binaries.
We are so much more than one role, one chapter, one part of our genetics. We don't have to pick one way to live or to see ourselves. With a careful application of our intellect and a commitment to live inside our ethics, we can evolve into containers that won't even need us to choose.
It's time for a radically different view.
Supporting Radical Work
This enterprise is rooted in the idea that individuals can help evolve unhelpful frameworks when they no longer serve. The way we exchange money for support — or experience money and power — is a place where I want to see more change.
I am an independent consultant, so I need resources to support this work. But I also have a deep commitment to connecting with clients for whom this frame fits just right. That is the why. The how emerges when we try. If you are drawn to this work, don't stay away because of financial constraints — and don't assume I can work without a fee. Perhaps we can arrive at a radically different solution that evolves the frame so everyone has what they need. (See what I did there?)

Humor is no Joke
We cannot step outside of limiting frameworks while stuck in a stress response. This work goes into tough things like prejudice around cognitive variance, divorce and unconventional relationships, shifts in identity, and places that feel stuck or tender. My goal in creating this enterprise was to push back on stereotypes about what one business can be or what one founder can be. I am here as my whole self in front of you. My hope is that my willingness to go there will help others feel safe to do the same.
But I notice that even with copious love and moxie, some of the things I want to discuss can be scary. We are frozen when we are scared — and I want us to evolve. So I'm just going to have to make us laugh while we get into it.
Laughter belongs here. It does not need to be kept separate from issues of inclusion or feeling cast aside. Let's soften into new ways of working and thinking that stop asking us to choose.
What's in a Word?
We use words to describe ourselves and our experiences.
The words we use matter — sometimes they help us connect and feel seen; other times, they make us feel like we will never fit into the picture.
I am passionate about applying ethics to the places where our differences impact our ability to connect in community. Old frames can sometimes feel comforting, but it is time to get real about where outdated structures no longer hold what is true.
We need to use clear, honest language and build frameworks that honor all of us in our full complexity. No label or box required.
Individual 1-1 Consulting work is based in applied ethics. It is educational in nature, not clinical.
